Diaper Need Awareness Week is Sept. 18-24 but we will be collecting donations in our office (Baldwin Hall 204) all month! Drop off donations or . Learn more about diaper need in our community and share solutions and information about the Athens Area Diaper Bank and how they are working to help local families.

We are working with the Diaper Bank to bring awareness of this difficult issue while trying to make a difference in our community.

If you are not familiar with diaper need and how it effects families around us:

• 鈥淒iaper need鈥� is a lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep babies clean, dry, and healthy.
• Diapers cost over $1,000 every year, a cost that 1 in 3 families struggle with in the US.
• Government assistance programs, like food stamps and WIC, do not cover diapers.
• There are 8,000 children in the Athens area at risk of experiencing diaper need.
• The Athens Area Diaper Bank provides over 25,000 diapers every month to families in need.

Join us for our PADP Spring Service Day with Habitat For Humanity on Saturday, April 1st!

We will be volunteering 9am-3pm and lunch will be provided.

笔濒别补蝉别听register by March 26th if you would like to join. The location of the project will be announced a little closer to the day of service and will be emailed to everyone who registers. Registration is first come first served until volunteer slots fill up.

By registering, you will be committing to participating on April 1, for the entire 9am-3pm shift. We need to have an accurate count of participants to ensure we provide a complete team to Habitat so teamwork projects are possible.

If after registering you become unable to attend, it is important that you let us know so we can be sure we recruit a full team.

Children First, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Athens. They promote safe homes for children in times of family crisis. They offer three different programs:

– Works to improve the lives of children in foster care throughout the state. By advocating for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, our volunteers amplify each child’s voice and help change a child’s story.

– Is an evidence-based, in-home parenting-training curriculum for parents who have current or previous involvement with the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS). It is delivered in the home or community setting. It also teaches a structured problem solving technique to assist parents with finding solutions to life challenges that may affect parenting.

– Helps non-custodial parents navigate the difficulties of establishing or maintaining contact with their children. It identifies obstacles and barriers to visitation/parenting time by working with both mothers and fathers and offering a range of services such as: Legitimation Assistance/Parental Rights Education, Parenting Education, and Neutral Drop off Visits.

They have designed specific programs to help those people who are most vulnerable to the threat of hunger, serving children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
